Light and fluffy waffles that are keto and carnivore approved, kid friendly, and great for meal prep, sandwiches, or dessert.

When my family and I first started a carnivore diet, I wanted to keep meals as normal as possible. I also wanted to continue cooking some of my son's favorite meals. He was 6 years old at the time. I didn't want him feeling restricted or getting bored eating an animal based diet. Over the years I have learned how to cook some of the same meals that we ate on a standard American Diet, Carnivore style. What kid doesn't like waffles?

Mom, these are the best waffles ever!

Initially I tried making carnivore waffles with pork rinds and they were tasty, but very dense and didn't seem like a breakfast food to me. So, I started experimenting with different ingredients to see if I could create waffles that were light and fluffy like the real thing. I was pleasantly surprised the first time I tried these waffles. I couldn't believe that I made a waffle that tasted like the real thing! The secret is cooking them in a waffle iron and adding baking soda which helps them rise and not fall as much after they cool.

These waffles are so versatile. You can eat them like a traditional waffle, or you can use them for sandwiches or dessert. I add keto chocolate chips to my son's waffles, and my husband likes his with a big scoop of homemade whipped cream! I like to make up a batch of these Sunday morning and my son eats them for breakfast during the week. It's part of my weekly meal prep and helps me provide nutritious meals to my family during the week when life is more busy.

Whey Protein Waffles: How to make them


Here is everything that you need to make this recipe perfectly. If you can't find unflavored whey protein powder, you could substitute vanilla or chocolate whey protein if you tolerate them. I prefer to use unflavored whey because it doesn't have a bunch of additives and icky ingredients. Grass-fed is best if you can find it. Be sure to check the ingredients label. Many whey protein powders contain soy and other additives.


A food processor or hand mixer is needed for this recipe to ensure that all of the ingredients incorporate well. Make sure the cream cheese and butter are soft or the batter will turn out clumpy. If you are using a hand mixer, you may want to start on a low speed when adding the whey protein powder or it might get a bit messy.

  1. Add the cream cheese, butter, and eggs to a large food processor and pulse until well combined being sure to scrape the sides.

  2. Add all of the dry ingredients the food processor and pulse until well combined being sure to scrape the sides.

  3. Pour the batter onto a hot waffle iron. Cook until golden brown in color. Serve immediately with butter or whipped cream.
